About us
Kiwis in Climate is a fast-growing community of hundreds of New Zealanders working in climate and related fields, amplifying our collective impact from Aotearoa to the world.
Our history
Kiwis in Climate was formed in London in 2018, to connect UK-based expats working in the climate and sustainability fields. As the Covid-19 pandemic impacted the world some members returned home to Aotearoa, and the network began expanding to a global one. After our NZ Rugby / INEOS advocacy campaign of 2021, KiC has expanded rapidly, establishing a leadership structure, brand, and widening our communications both internal and external.
Kiwis in Climate is a non-profit organisation funded by membership fees and donations through the Open Collective.
Our people
Kiwis in Climate currently has over 300 members, and is defined by an organic, flat structure that has made for an easygoing network whether it’s for a drinks catchup or a collaborative submission to parliament.
A volunteer leadership team works hard behind the scenes. The pro-bono Convenors Group and a part-time paid Coordinator work to foster membership connection and events, empower advocacy initiatives, and curate best-practice processes, kaupapa, and the KiC brand.
Our brand
The Takarangi pattern seen on this website is the foundation of our new branding, developed for Kiwis in Climate by Auckland design agency Run.
The design draws from te ao Māori to express the sacred relationship between Ranginui (the Sky Father) and Papatūānuku (the Earth Mother), and the relationship between land, sea, people, and all living systems. The spiral form also represents the interconnectedness and collaboration so intrinsic to the KiC network and purpose.
