Open Letter to stop the LNG Terminal

Stop the LNG Terminal: Invest in New Zealand's Energy Future

November 2026

Kiwis in Climate's open letter to the Prime Minister,  Minister for Energy, Minister of Finance, and Minister for Resources

Kiwis in Climate has published an open letter calling on the New Zealand Government to stop progressing the proposed Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import terminal.

We are concerned about the project's economic justification, its potential to expose New Zealanders to volatile international fossil fuel markets, and the diversion of investment away from homegrown renewable energy.

We are calling for greater transparency around the project's costs, risks and alternatives, and for a national energy strategy that prioritises affordability, resilience and a low-emissions future.
